I try, hard, not to get too political in my daily life. I have friends of many different mindsets, and in order for us to get along harmoniously, I dont like to talk politics. I go to political protests, for many issues, and try to keep my personal ideas out of it.
I work for a government contractor, but I’d like to think that I work for the government… in that I support it. I did this when Bush was President, and I continue with Obama. I would have continued if McCain was voted President, too. I’m a little happier with Obama in the driver’s seat, but thats because thats me.
Today, walking to my car through my parking lot, I saw this poster. I wont post it here, because I dont want folks to get the wrong idea of me. But its the Obama- Socialism Joker poster. It was magnet-ed to a car. I was pretty fucking angry. Fine that you have your ideas. I saw plenty of these posters at the 9/12 DC protest. They have their place. But in a government agency parking lot? Excuse me?
I went to my car, grabbed a piece of paper, and wrote the following:
We work for the government.
And the government works for the people.
And the people voted for Obama.
If you have a problem with this, perhaps you need to reevaluate where you work.
No, I didnt sign it. As a contractor, I have a pretty short leash and I’d appreciate not getting fired when I just bought a house. There is a time and place for these kinds of things, and in our parking lot… its just inappropriate. If that employee had brought that picture inside and put it in their cube, they would be reprimanded. Hands down.
Its just… inappropriate. Not at work. Whatever you want to do at home, or on your own time, go for it. But not at work. And definitively not when you work for the government, in their parking lot. Bumper stickers, whatever… but not that poster. In fact, I had my Obama magnetic bumper sticker removed, while I was parked at work. And yet the dude with the 4ft McCain magnet wasnt touched… maybe because you cant hide that theft. Whatever. Just… yeah. I’m mad.
