In Dead Load there are a couple of action scenes and explosions that need plenty of pre-visualisation and thought as to how they’ll be realised. So over the past few days I’ve been shot listing, storyboarding and generally trying to get my ideas down on paper. It’s hard work I tell ya.

One scene that I’m drawing on as a reference is the fantastic “Chicken Run” scene from Rebel Without A Cause. It’s a stunning, melodramatic scene. I love the style, the lighting, the use of colour, but most of all, the sense of darkness and impending doom.

It’s well worth having a look…

It’s a fantastic scene. James Dean has very little dialogue yet somehow exudes a coolness rarely matched since. His understated reactions and expressions are terrific and he says all he needs to say in the way he smokes a cigarette.

And now I guess I’d better get back to drawing up my shotlist.

BMW cracking rims?

We’ve all done it, hit a kerb hard, or clobber and even hit that mysterious pothole and expected to have cracked an alloy, but what if the damage occurs without any obvious cause? BMW investigates as its a situation which has faced many BMW 3 Series owners recently and like most unfortunate BMW owners the wheels weren’t covered under warranty.

It seems to be a recurring issue with 19-inch alloys with run-flat tyres. The BBC’s Watchdog programme highlighted the issue in October 2009 and BMW’s initial response was to stand its ground, saying: ‘Every one of these [cracked alloys] has been investigated by our specialist technicians and in every case the wheels concerned have shown signs of impact damage, which have resulted in the cracking.’ A fair argument in any case, however under mounting pressure, BMW has now changed its position. They have decided to stop offering customers the affected 19-inch wheels on new vehicles while they look into this matter, also quoting that their actions should not be interpreted as acceptance of liability, but rather as a clear sign that we take our customers’ concerns very seriously. Also another fair argument.

Since this debate has come about in some cases that earlier decisions to reject warranty claims have been reversed. BMW is now replacing cracked 19-inch alloys with run-flats unless there are clear visual indications of impact damage. Warning has gone out to owners of BMW 3 Series with 19” alloys wheel but it is the last thing you’d expect from a nice new BMW. Scotland has some terrible roads and dealerships have also been reimbursing new tyres and new alloys to combat this issue.

Urine A Car.

I went to school again today to try and crash more classes with no luck. I’m really hoping and depending on this TTh math class to come through. After trying to crash classes, I was walking to the parking lot when someone offers to give me ride to my car in exchange for my parking space. I, myself, have done this many a time. It’s a typical trade in a busy parking lot such as my school’s. I hopped in and noticed the driver was pretty cute. He was a typical college bro. Another thing I noticed was a slight hint of a urine smell. As I sat there in the passenger seat, the smell grew in strength and potency. There was nothing more I wanted at the time than to vacate the vehicle as soon as possible. If it wasn’t for that damn urine stench, I probably would of ‘forgot’ where I parked for a while!

Sweden’s Saab is being sold to Dutch luxury carmaker Spyker, General Motors (GM) has confirmed.

GM has been trying to sell Saab since January 2009. Earlier this month, it said it would start to shut down the firm while still looking for a buyer.

But GM said wind-down activities would be immediately suspended, “pending the close of the transaction”.

Spyker sold 43 cars in 2008, when it posted a loss of $35m (£21m). Terms of the deal were not specified.

Saab, the car that emerged from a company making fighter jets, is set for a new existence as a subsidiary of Spyker, a small, loss-making Dutch sports car maker.

Spyker chief Victor Muller says he wants to create more jobs, rather than reduce the Saab workforce, as he is keen to prevent the number of cars produced from falling further.

But others have tried and failed to make Saab into a volume carmaker.

For the 3,400 workers at Saab’s factory in Trollhaettan, the deal offers a glimmer of hope for the future, though it is too early to suggest their jobs are safe.

However, reports suggest that Spyker paid $74m for Saab.

‘Great news’

Saab lost 3bn kronor (£255m; $412m) in 2008, and has not made a profit since 2001.

US group GM rejected an earlier offer from Spyker for Saab in December.

Shares in Spyker were earlier suspended on the Amsterdam stock exchange, with the Dutch financial market regulator saying the move was “pending [a] press release” from the company.

Its shares were 2.8% higher before the suspension, after having risen more than 60% on Monday.

“Today’s announcement is great news for Saab employees, dealers and suppliers, great news for millions of Saab customers and fans worldwide, and great news for GM,” said John Smith, GM vice-president for corporate planning and alliances.

“General Motors, Spyker Cars, and the Swedish government worked very hard and creatively for a deal that would secure a sustainable future for this unique and iconic brand, and we’re all happy for the positive outcome,” he said.

Flew back home to have a quick bite to eat – and then went back out with my Mom and sister Lisa…

Another quick stop at Bed Bath & Beyond and Shop Rite.

Then it was back home to finish setting up all my appointments for tomorrow.

Bear Attacking Me Dream

I had a very interesting dream the night of Jan 22-Jan 23. It was about a bear attacking me. I was at my parents house, and was about to leave I looked out into the field to the right of the house and saw a bear. Just a small dot. Mom couldn’t find Wally (our dog), and was standing on the deck calling him. While she was calling, the bear kept getting closer and closer, and finally came between me and my car and my mom. I called at the bear to keep it from attacking my mom, who seemed completely un aware it was actually there. It turned and started to me who had jumped in my car. I went to start it, but I had left the keys inside. The bear turned back to my mom. I called at him again, and honked the horn. It came at me. Somehow my car moved and there was a tree beside the A piller. The bear stood up to attack, and I became scared that it would break the glass. It lunged at me, but was stoped my the A Piller and the tree. Almost stuck between the two per se. The glass never broke while the bear was clawing at me. I somehow managed to start the car, in some limp mode, and drive away. This isn’t the first dream recently I’ve had that I can remember so vividly, but I decided to at least try and decode this one. I had some extra time at work, waiting for my computer to load.

Starting with the main idea, the bear attacking me.

• Bear itself is a symbol of independence/ self reflection/and time of thinking. It is also the mother figure in many cultures.
• first the bear was in a field – the field in a symbol of unlimited growth potential.
• Then the bear was attacking me – this is a symbol of agression – but I called the bear over from attacking someone else hmm.

The bear was stopped by the tree and my car -

• The tree is a symbol of self development and individuality
• the car itself is a symbol of ego or personality, the larger self, and how we travel through life.
• -being in the car, in the driver seat is a symbol of wanting control (or thinking you want control) of your life.
• -how the car ride is can be compared to the journey of you life – mine being very sluggish with no power, but will eventually get there (the ultra limp mode)

The the part about the glass -

• To see glass in your dream, symbolizes passivity or protection. You may be putting up an invisible barrier to protect yourself in a situation or relationship.
• To dream that you are looking through glass, represents your openness and non-defensiveness. Alternatively, you may be putting up an invisible emotional barrier around yourself.
• To see broken glass in your dream, signifies a change in your life. Alternatively, it could be symbolic of an aspect of your life that is in pieces. You will find that a situation will come to an abrupt and untimely end. 

Now I also looked up keys and losing keys it generically means feeling out of control – unable to aquire what is needed to complete a task or obtain a person’s knowledge – giving away power in your life or shrinking responsibility for your self.

The lost dog I never could find. But dog is -

• To see a dog in your dream, symbolizes intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. The dream suggests that your strong values and good intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and bring you success.
• Alternatively, it indicates a skill that you have ignored or forgotten.

I did find this to help with my interpretation:

I am in a field. It is peaceful and green and I can see trees off in the distance. All of the sudden, there is a brown bear and I run. He is close behind me and I hop over a barbed wire fence and run for the trees. Then I am suddenly at some meeting in a shopping mall that has pink stucco walls. Carolyn February 10, 2001

Hi Carolyn, Chase dreams are quite common and often reflect a situation that you are afraid in confronting. The bear is symbolic of introspection and self-reflection. In mythology, it also refers to the great mother figure. The green fields indicates your hopes and your unlimited potential for growth. The fence is obviously an obstacle that you overcome and is a reflection of your determination and will. I think the bear is chasing you not to attack you, but to push you away. It is no coincidence that you run toward the trees. The trees are significant for they are a symbol of self-development and individuality. Your mother may be pushing you to explore the world on your own and become your own person. At the end of your dream, you suddenly found yourself in a meeting. The meeting reiterates again how you need to redirect your energies in a more productive manner.

How should I put this together to fit my dream and life? I do not run from the bear, but call it towards me. Then the tree and car protect me.  I also never see my mother and the bear at the same time. Can the bear be portraying my mother? Is she trying to push me from doing something? Yet my individuality and ego is too much? I am emotionally protecting myself? From my mother? From another part of myself? Am I fighting with myself on what I should do with my life? I am, as per most of my other post I suppose. Then the dog – I can’t find my true value to help my in this world? Ugh.

Things I Want But Won't Have

Well…. I mean, I could get these things, but in order to get them it requires money. So I came up with a list of things I want but probably will never have (well I will have some but still……).

This Camera is way cool. It is a touch screen, and takes good pictures. You can't turn down a good ol' touch screen anything.

Who doesn't want a car. NO ONE!

This Flash drive is so small. I don't care if I won't use it. It would go great on a key chain. Besides it's my cheapest desire. It's my most likely future purchase.

I have had one before and really miss having one. They are just such time wasters. I can always go for a good time waster.

I would have so much fun with one of these! I mean I go through 15$ gift cards. I can only imagine how great it would be to have a 50$ gift card.

I have a trashy old mp3 player. If I had this I could hold off on a new iPod and live with this for a while.

Seriously, I need this stuff. I am in debt.... to my brother. I can't stand being in debt. It makes all my will to get something just... vanish.

After several weeks of dogged detective work, police have finally managed to apprehend the culprit responsible for the theft of Lara Bingle’s $250,000 Aston Martin in late December.

Police are refusing to release a name (grrrrrrr!), but they have revealed that they arrested a 14-year-old Sydney boy at his La Perouse home on Monday.

Wait… what?

That’s right. The Machiavellian crim that sparked this whole investigation? He just finished 8th grade.

SHIT! He's armed now too??? We're boned!

In many cases the people will take a greater price for the additional hardware options that they get or will take the lower price for the more simple designs. The third part to this is quality, and this is attributed to a number of factors when one truly is seeking an ideal cheap car stereo.

The first of these factors is the design and the brand that is making the stereo. Some stereos have been shown to be rock bottom in price, yet have a design flaw in them. Some have gone to pawn shops or to used auto part stores for a cheap car stereo, yet these are usually the most risky that someone can get as they are not ensured the be working or that they will not put the rest of the car at risk with any issues that they may have. Mini Bath!

I’ve seen a few limousines in my time and everyone has surpassed my expectations what with private seating, dance floor, stripper’s pole and karaoke, not to mention endless amounts of champagne and massage chairs. However this Mini limousine does one better….it’s only got a Jacuzzi in it! Think of that after a party or a discreet getaway with someone, it sounds like quite the pleasurable experience and what ever the weather i don’t think I’d hesitate to go in the Mini in Edinburgh, freezing cold or not this would warm my cockles nicely.

Mini-Roundabout mayhem!

Infuriating. Drivers who do a U-turn on mini-roundabout.

Picture the scene.  I’m driving home from work through a busy village which neighbours my own.  It’s around 4:45pm on a freezing cold January winter’s evening -  it’s very dark and gloomy, with snow & ice still on the road.

I approach a mini-roundabout and give way to traffic on my right, as as most of us tend to do.  After a few cars have gone the coast is clear to my right and I begin to pull away, all okay, no problems here.

But then I hit the brakes!

A driver to the left of me has totally ignored me and pulled out to turn right… or so I think.  Nope.  This driver, completes a U-turn and effectively cuts across me.  I’m not happy, sound my horn, as you do, spurt out some expletives, as you do, shake my head, as you do and go on my way.

Though before I properly get going, the ‘offending’ lady gives me a real dirty look, spurts out some expletives, as you do – and even finds time to give me an impressive hand gesture (that’s twice in so many days!  Check this here, do you think someone’s trying to tell me something?!)

Seconds later I hear a huffy noise from the passenger seat.  Yes, it’s the noise only a wife could make when travelling as a passenger in her husband’s car. “Darling, I don’t think there was any need for that do you?” she mutters in a condescending tone, as only a wife can do.

“Well, it’s f****ing illegal, that’s what!” I reply, kinda taking my frustrations out on her, almost like she had metamorphosised into the driver of the other vehicle!

“Actually Darling, I don’t know if it is actually illegal.”

So, not knowing whether who was in the right/wrong – it got me thinking.  Is it actually illegal to do a 360 degrees U-turn at a mini-roundabout?  So, when I got home, I did a little research and, to my complete dismay, it isn’t actually illegal!!  Para 188 of The Highway Code states:

Mini-roundabouts. Approach these in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. Remember, there is less space to manoeuvre and less time to signal. Avoid making U-turns at mini-roundabouts. Beware of others doing this.

Avoid?  Avoid?  You gotta be joking, right?!  I think I’d prefer this text to be replaced with:

Mini-roundabouts etc etc – You’d have to be f***ing mad to make a U-turn at a mini-roundabout. And if you see some stupid idiot doing this, report them to the police for driving without due care and attention!

Seriously though, the mini-roundabout where the ‘near miss’ happened, is as small as they come.  There’s not enough room to use it normally let alone 360-it!  And, although this woman was indicating (congrats for that), she was going at a fair speed, way too fast to take the roundabout safely, especially in the icy conditions.

You see, one good thing has come out of today’s near miss.  I will be on the look out for more MRUTTs (Mini-Roundabout U-Turn Tossers) in the future.

Though this next statements sounds a bit ridiculous, now I know it’s not illegal, I’m going to be more prepared for it. And having read this article, hopefully you will too.  Drive safely folks!

Saturday

I got up at five yesterday and this is what I did until 0945:

1) shower

2) groceries (I love shopping at 6 am. No one is around!)

3) breakfast (donut from the store)

4) changed sheets on our bed

5) straightened the kitchen

6) returned a book to the library

7) visited with Mom from 0730-0930

I mention all this because Miss Gem was on a sleepover which we let her go to because she promised she would be home at 0900-she has a 1030 guitar lesson. So, she wasn’t home so I stopped at her friends house at 0945 and WOKE UP THE WHOLE HOUSE! Really their dog woke everyone up because anytime someone is at the door, he does a full body slam against it 3 or 4 times. I’m not kidding. But look at all the things I got done while they were sleeping. I am not a night person; I love to get up early in the morning and get things done. I wish department stores opened earlier than 10 am. Anyway, we made it to the guitar lesson.

Hilton was having car problems so we went over there in the afternoon. Brought Jennifer with us too. L dropped us off at Barb’s and went to pick up Hilton. The kids played Wii while Laurie, Barb and I chatted over some wine. I had 3 glasses! After L replaced the battery, the car ran fine so we left stopping at Holy Land for some Gyros (Jennifer ordered a cheeseburger, Miss Gem chicken nuggets!). The hummus and gyros were delicious. The best hummus I’ve ever had. Miss Gem went back to Jennifer’s for another sleep over. She probably didn’t sleep very well which is why the title of my next post is
