Fathers are there when you’re small to carry you home
And to make sure you’re never left alone
Fathers are there to photograph your first day of school
To make you do your homework even if the other kids say it’s uncool
Fathers are there to tell you to learn to play guitar
And to teach you how to drive a car
Fathers are there to eat ice cream with
And to tell you ghost stories and Greek myths
Fathers are there to ask you about your friends
To make sure they don’t push you off the edge of the swimming pool ends
Fathers are there to make you to listen to old songs
And separate the right actions from the wrongs
Fathers are there to teach you to dribble a basketball
And to tell you not to spend too much time at the mall
Fathers are there to tell you not to stay out late
And to call if you’re staying out after eight
Fathers are there to hold your hand
Even though you’ve grown up quicker than he planned
Thank you, Dad
For always being there
